Staying Present

This week, I am away! Not in the pictured location- I’m actually abroad!

I scheduled this post ahead of time for one reason, and that was to remind me to stay present while with family. So often, I’m pulled into work because I love what I do. I’ve learned, though, to carve out purely family time and to remain present while doing so.

I know many women who have a hard time with this balance, and I know it can be hard. We love our work (ok maybe not everyone, but I do!) and we love our family. We love our friends, our hobbies, and we need to love ourselves. There’s so much to worry about, it’s no wonder we can easily get distracted or focus too heavily on one thing and let others slide.

That’s why, this week, I’m choosing to stay present. I’m sure I’ll document our journey, but I won’t be answering phone calls or updating the blog. Instead, I’m going to soak up my family and the beautiful country we’re visiting.

When you’re not traveling, though, how can you stay present and focus on the balance? You don’t necessarily have to meditate in order to stay present. Of course, it’s not a bad idea, but we already have a lot to do- right? Well, here are my tips for presence:

  • Stick to your schedule as much as possible. Life happens, but have work time, family time, self time, etc carved out into your week.
  • Turn off social media notifications. Seriously- all of them. It’s a lot easier to stay present when you’re not hearing dings or feeling a buzz every two minutes. Better yet, turn the phone off every once in a while.
  • Have set “unplugged” time. For us, we leave our phones away from the table at dinner, and out of reach during family game nights.
  • Last but not least, get outside! I’m hoping this week will be filled with both indoor and outdoor adventures with my family! No matter where you are, a bit of nature will do you a world of good.

Not that bad, right?

On that note, I will be returning e-mails and inquiries next Monday. If you want to follow along on our Icelandic adventure, I’m sure I’ll post on Instagram here and there! http://instagram.com/sarahchaseboudoir

I hope you all have a beautiful week! Stay present, and enjoy the balance of life.
