If you haven’t checked out last week’s post about building a wardrobe, I recommend reading that first, as I’ll be referencing it!
So, you have your basics and statement pieces ready- now what about adding accessories? Things like hats, jewelry, and bags. Keep your preferences in mind when reading through these tips. Some women like a lot of accessories, while others like to keep it simple. There’s no right or wrong!
Let’s talk about the bag first, because most of us use one!
Basic vs Statement
Which route will you go for your every day bag? A basic bag, if in the colors that go with your neutrals, will go with just about everything and anything.
A statement bag can match well too, again when matched with the colors you already have in your wardrobe. It can also add a fantastic flare to any outfit, even a tee shirt and jeans.
Function and fashion can come together here. What do you carry around with you every day? Let that dictate the size and style of your bag. Will an over-the-shoulder help with chasing after kids? Or will a simple tote be everything you need?
Another thing to keep in mind for special occasions is a clutch. For those times when you only need your ID and a card or cash, a clutch can be both functional and a beautiful addition to your outfit.
This is where you can really let your personal style shine! You can stick with classic things like pearls, or really add some bold personality with other items. With any addition to your wardrobe, only choose the things you love!
What jewelry do you already have? Can you pair it in a new way, to wear it more often? Maybe that string of pearls you wore to your friend’s wedding can be worn with a tee shirt and jeans. Those earrings your husband got you for Valentines day? Rock them any day!
You don’t have to wear anything, or you can stack up items. The choice really is yours. Don’t be afraid to try something new, to mix and match, and always have fun with it.
Hats are not a necessity, except for New Hampshire winters of course, but they can be a fun addition to your outfit!
Look for hats in the neutral tones that already exist in your wardrobe, or add a statement hat to your collection! Don’t be afraid to try a few on to find the look and style that makes you feel the best. While I have a few hats myself, each one was put against a few others before I made a purchase.
Remember, this style you’re creating is yours! Have fun with it, and build a closet you love. Every time you add something to it, getting ready, looking and feeling amazing will all be more effortless.
